Rail-Highway Grade Crossings - Phase 3

Project Description The purpose of this effort was to support the use of various components of the SHRP 2 NDS database by personnel from Michigan Tech, who investigated, railroad crossings, driver reaction to the existing traffic control devices and impacts of the crossing environment, including weather, time of day, and driver familiarity with the crossing. Data Request Scope Michigan Tech received data for within an area extending from about 600 feet prior to a grade crossing, through the crossing, and 100-200 feet beyond the crossing. The dataset consisted of close to 15,000 crossings from nearly 300 locations of interest.
