Angiogenesis and neurogenesis are the two major processes tightly coupled during the early stage of tissue formation, which produce the appropriate vasculature and innervation in the mature pulp tissue. However, anatomical confinement and local niche deficiency of the damaged tissue restrict rapid functional blood circulation formation and neurogenesis within the transplanted engineered constructs. Therefore, novel approaches are urgently needed to create favorable niches for vascular and neural regeneration. Recently, hypoxia was demonstrated as an important driving force of angiogenesis and electrical signal transmission as a promoting factor for neural differentiation of stem cells. Thus, the aim of this study is to fabricate novel hydrogel scaffolds that could create a hypoxic environment and conductive condition with electrical stimulation for angiogenesis and neurogenesis.
