Contrasting effects of long-term chicken manure and sawdust biochar application on soil properties, tree growth, and carbon sequestration in a subtropical Pinus elliottii plantation Authors: Zhibin Lin, Tianlong Hu, Yanhui Zhang, Guangying Zhang, Qi Liu, Min HaoAffiliation: College of Biological Science and Engineering, Ningde Normal University, Ningde, Fujian 352000, China Dataset overview:This dataset contains the raw experimental data supporting the associated research article. The study evaluates the effects of five-year successive applications of chicken manure biochar (CMB) and sawdust biochar (SDB) on soil physicochemical properties, Pinus elliottii growth, and ecosystem carbon sequestration in a subtropical plantation mesocosm experiment. Included file: Contrasting_effects_of_long-term_S2.xlsxSheet descriptions:1. README: Experimental overview, variable definitions, units, key parameters, and usage notes.2. Tree_D30: Diameter at 30 cm height (D30) measurements for trees harvested at 1 year (TREE 1) and 5 years (TREE 2).3. Tree_Height: Tree height measurements for TREE 1 and TREE 2.4. Tree_Biomass_NPP: Standing tree biomass (STB), litterfall biomass (LFB), biomass increment (IB), and net primary productivity (NPP) data.5. Soil_N_P_K: Soil total nitrogen, available nitrogen, total phosphorus, available phosphorus, total potassium, and available potassium data.6. Soil_pH_CEC: Soil pH and cation exchange capacity (CEC) data.7. Soil_BD_WHC: Soil bulk density (BD) and water holding capacity (WHC) data.8. Soil_Tree_Carbon: Soil and tree carbon concentration data.9. LCCB_Annual: Life cycle carbon balance (LCCB) components for 1-year, 5-year, and 22-year rotation periods.10. LCCB_Equations: Empirical LCCB equations and lookup tables. Usage notes: All variable definitions and units are provided in the README sheet of the Excel file. Three replicate mesocosms were established per treatment (CK, SDB, CMB) with an application rate of 24 Mg per ha per year.
