We propose the use of Neutron PDF to probe the local order of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) - a cathode material for Li-ion batteries who's use is limited by its poor cycling stability. Previous neutron PDF of LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 indicates the presence of short-range order in both long-range ordered and disordered structures. The size of these ordered and partially-ordered domains is suggested to be most influential in determining the electrochemical performance of these cathode materials. Fe-doping (LiNi0.5-xFexMn1.5O4) has been implemented to improve the poor cycling performance of LNMO, where is has shown stabilisation of long-range disorder structure. It is, therefore, our intention to elucidate the correlation, between Fe concentration, local order and electrochemical performance.
