A microbiota transplant originating from mature adult chicken ceca and propagated in bioreactors was administered to day-old broiler chicks to ascertain the degree to which, and how, the microbiota transplant affects Clostridium perfringens-incited necrotic enteritis. Using a stress predisposition model of necrotic enteritis, birds administered the microbiota transplant and challenged with C. perfringens showed significantly fewer necrotic lesions, and exhibited a substantially higher alpha- and beta-diversity of bacteria in their jejunum and ceca.
