Salmo cettii populations often live in streams characterized by irregular flow, stones or gravel, and rich in ravines. Salmo cettii can tolerate relatively high temperature conditions and poor water oxygenation. The probable original distribution includes the entire Tyrrhenian coast and south-central Italy. Today, as a result of restocking practices with Atlantic brown trout lineages, its presence in Italy has been reduced. Today it is found only in a few streams in central and southern Italy, Sardinia and Corsica.
