Sediment biogeochemical data collected as part of a seagrass Blue Carbon assessment of Turneffe Atoll, Belize (January 2019).

Seagrass sediments are important ‘blue carbon’ reservoirs which store climatically significant quantities of organic carbon (Corg) at global scale. This dataset contains observation-based estimates of Corg storage on Turneffe Atoll, Belize, January 2019, using remote-sensed habitat extent and local Corg data. Sedimentary organic carbon was determined from sediment core samples by elemental analysis. Camera equipped UAV were used to map seagrass and ground truth Sentinel 2 satellite imagery to map seagrass.
