Whole genome sequencing of Penicillium fungi that synthesize okaramine

Microorganisms symbiotic with plants affect host plants and the surrounding environment through various metabolites. Previously, we have discovered a fungal-produced metabolite named okaramine from the rhizosphere of hairy vetch. In this study, we isolated several fungi from the hairy vetch root endosphere and found that one isolate of Penicillium spp. has okaramine synthesizing activity. We performed whole genome sequencing of this isolate to conduct comparative genomic analysis with closely related species and to identify okaramine biosynthesis genes.
