Phenotypic data (straw protein content) of 118 European winter barley cultivars

The straw protein content was evaluated through a calibrated NIRS in a collection of ca.120 European winter barley cultivars. These genotypes were grown for two years (harvesting 2009 and 2010) at the experimental farm of CREA, Fiorenzuola d'Arda, in replicated plots of 3 m2, following an alpha-lattice design with two reps. At maturity, the straw was collected from a plot subsample, culms and leaves were separated and milled with a cyclone mill with a sieve of 0.5 mm. The resulting straw powder was evaluated for protein content through NIRS.
