资源简介:
Kidney is highly metabolically active organ that consume 10% of oxygen used in cellular respiration, receives ¼ th of the cardiac output, filters approximately 180 L of water per day and eliminate 1-2 litres of urine daily. 95% of renal ATP is predominantly generated via oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria. The current lifestyle with diets rich in fats is believed to be an important risk factor for many non-communicable diseases including chronic kidney diseases. High fat associated nutrient overload in kidney can induce ectopic lipid accumulation and active pro-lipogenic and pro-fibrotic genes, resulting elevated oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Studies have showed that dietary modifications can increase the susceptibility towards ischemic acute kidney injury
Renal ischemia reperfusion (IR) injury is one of the major cause of acute kidney injury that often presented with surgical procedures. There have been a number of prior studies that reported the detrimental effects of high fat diet on the kidney, and it is reported to influence the renal recovery after ischemia reperfusion. In the present study, we aim to investigate mitochondrial quality changes associated with high fat diet treatment and its impact on the renal recovery from IR.
