The strain MTCC 10057 was isolated from a municipal landfill soil at a depth of 5.5ft. The strain is mesophilic in physiological requirements, moderately halotolerant and unable to utilize and hydrolyze most of the sugars and polymers respectively. The strain differs in phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and molecular characteristics from its closet phylogenetic taxa in the phylum Firmicutes thereby representing a potential strain in a novel genus Indibacillus immunditiarum gen. nov., sp. nov.
