To access the GIS Shapefiles section of our Open Data Portal please submit a request using the following form. This section of the Portal is subject to our Shared Data Licence Terms and Conditions within the attached link. When downloading or utilising the information within this area of the portal you are deemed to have accepted and are bound by said Terms and Conditions. The LTDS CIM dataset provides a structured representation of the Long-Term Development Statement (LTDS) using the Common Information Model (CIM), enabling consistent data exchange and network modelling across Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). A central component of this dataset is the LTDS Equipment (EQ) Profile, which forms the foundational layer of
physical grid data. The EQ Profile describes the physical equipment and connectivity of the distribution network, covering assets from the 132kV level (or 33kV in Scotland) down to the lower voltage busbars of primary substations. It includes:
Busbar
sections and their connectivity nodes.
Switching
devices such as breakers, disconnectors, fuses, and load break
switches, including representative feeder breakers for aggregated
modelling.
Circuits,
modelled via AC line segments with impedance and seasonal ampacity limits.
Transformers,
including winding details, tap changers, and seasonal apparent power
limits.
Loads,
represented as aggregated energy consumers depending on voltage level.
Generation
and storage, modelled by fuel type and connection voltage, using
appropriate CIM classes (e.g., SynchronousMachine,
PowerElectronicsConnection).
Compensators,
including shunt, series, and static VAr devices.
Containment
and voltage level associations, defining the hierarchical structure of
substations, voltage levels, and geographical regions.
External
connections and model reductions, using equivalent injections and
branches to represent networks outside the licensee’s scope.
This profile underpins other future LTDS CIM profiles such
as Short Circuit (SC), Geographical Location (GL), and Steady State Hypothesis (SSH), and is essential for building Full Models and Difference Models used in planning, forecasting, and regulatory reporting. This dataset is designed to support interoperability, planning, and analysis across DNOs and stakeholders. The dataset is updated every May and November in line with
regulatory requirements and is intended to improve transparency,
interoperability, and stakeholder engagement across the energy sector. Please refer to the LTDS Stage 1.3 Publication Notes prepared
by the LTDS CIM Working Group for detailed guidance on this stage of the
process.
DisclaimerThe information used to prepare the LTDS submission is derived from SP Energy Networks own data. Whilst all reasonable care has been taken in the preparation of this data, SP Energy Networks is not responsible for any loss that may be attributed to the use of this information. For the avoidance of doubt, this data should not be used for safety critical purposes without the use of appropriate safety checks and services e.g. LineSearchBeforeUDig etc. The data included within the SPEN LTDS CIM files is indicative data only and has been redacted in line with our Risk Assessment process. CIM files cannot be used for accurate connection assessments, therefore prospective applicants are recommended to apply for a connection.
