Dataset of Escherichia coli DH5α in pure culture on different agar media

<i>Escherichia coli </i>DH5α<i> </i>(ATCC 53868) is the workhorse in molecular cloning. But, how does a pure culture of the bacterium look like on solid agar medium? Answer to this question depends on the medium used. Typically, <i>E. coli</i> DH5α would take on a beige, round colony morphology when grown on rich medium such as LB agar or Tryptic Soy Agar. However, the beige colour is absent from <i>E. coli</i> DH5α colonies grown on minimal salts agar such as a formulated colourless agar used in this study. Pictures of <i>E. coli</i> DH5α in pure culture on different agar media are encapsulated as a zip file dataset with this abstract. Incubation conditions were 37 ^oC under variable length of time on different agar media.
