The tree shrew genome is part of an NHGRI initiative to provide a comparative database for genome analysis and human genome annotation. Sequence has been generated for a set of genomes representing multiple mammalian lineages. The genomes are compared to identify blocks of sequence that are evolutionarily conserved across mammalian species due to functional constraints.
