Abstract The purpose of this article is to reflect on the “poem changed to Portuguese” by the poet Herberto Helder. Many of them are from non-European poetics. From the analysis of some Amerindian poems, we propose to discuss the implications of their choices and how they can be interpreted by contemporary anthropology.
