Phylogeographic analyses of intraspecific differentiation in the widespread shrub species in the Japanese Archipelago, Hydrangea serrta (Hydrangeaceae). Hydrangea

Hydrangea serrata is a deciduous shrub species, distributed throughout Japan and in a part of the East Asia. This species comprises of six varieties; since their distributions are allopatric in Japan, H. serrata will be a useful material to understand geographic species diversification in plants distributed widely in the Japanese Archipelago. In this study, we reconstructed an intraspecific phylogeny of H. serrata and estimated divergence time of all the Japanese species in sect. Macrophyllae, in which H. serrata is included, based on chloroplast DNA and genome-wide SNPs.
