Age related destruction in gut homeostasis is microbiota-dependent

Aging is associated with changes in gut microbiota and a decline in tissue function. Accumulating data suggest that remodeling the gut microbiota of the aged may improve the imbalance of intestinal homeostasis related to aging. Through transcriptome sequencing and subsequent bioinformatics analysis, we discovered that aging alters the gene expression profile in the colon and mesenteric lymph nodes, primarily affecting stress and immune responses.
