Simulated hurricane wind fields for Florida using a blending approach

This ZIP archive contains simulated wind fields for two historical hurricane events—Irma (2017) and Michael (2018)—along with the relevant source data. These datasets supplement the following manuscript: Wang, X., and Bocchini, P. (2025). "Using parameterized fragility models for hurricane risk analysis of power transmission networks." (In preparation) The wind fields are generated by blending the parametric Holland model with ERA5 reanalysis wind data. Focusing on the state of Florida, the simulations cover selected time windows during each hurricane event. The temporal resolution is 1 hour, and the spatial resolution is 0.01° in both longitude and latitude. File structure irma_2017_wind_field/ irma_2017_dict_wind_field.h5: hourly wind speed (1-min sustained wind speed, unit: m/s) and direction corresponding to the time window in ibtracs_irma_2017_select.csv. irma_2017_grid_coords.npz: spatial grid (longitude, latitude) for the simulated wind field. michael_2018_wind_field/ michael_2018_dict_wind_field.h5: hourly wind speed (1-min sustained wind speed, unit: m/s) and direction corresponding to the time window in ibtracs_michael_2018_select.csv. michael_2018_grid_coords.npz: spatial grid (longitude, latitude) for the simulated wind field. track_data_download/ (Source: IBTrACS dataset): ibtracs_irma_2017_select.csv: selected track data for Hurricane Irma (2017). ibtracs_michael_2018_select.csv: selected track data for Hurricane Michael (2018).
