Aquatic biodiversity exhibits spatiotemporal specificity, typically varying with geographic location of sampling sites and seasonal changes. The results of this study demonstrated that aquatic biodiversity in the core habitat of the Yangtze finless porpoise shows distinct spatiotemporal patterns, and confirmed the correlation between porpoise activity and aquatic biodiversity. Using environmental DNA (eDNA) technology, we detected plankton, benthic invertebrates, and fish communities in the core habitat of the Yangtze finless porpoise. Diversity and correlation analyses provided important information for the conservation of aquatic biodiversity and the protection of the Yangtze finless porpoise.
