To investigate the function of meiosis-specific SMC1beta on chromatin architecture near the telomeric end in primary murine spermatocytes we used a SMC1beta knockout mouse model. Further to study seperation of function of universal cohesin subunit SMC1alpha and meiosis specific SMC1beta, we compared open chromatin between SMC1b knockout spermatocytes and SMC1alpha overexpressed in a SMC1beta knockout mouse model.
