Dataset for Associations between visual-motor integration, pencil grip patterns, and holistic academic performance among school children

This dataset contains anonymised visual-motor integration (VMI), visual perception (VP), motor coordination (MC), pencil grip classifications, handedness, and Classroom-Based Assessment (CBA) academic mastery levels for 148 Malaysian school children aged 6–12 years. The data were collected from three public schools in Kuala Lumpur as part of a cross-sectional study examining the associations between VMI components, pencil grip patterns, and holistic academic performance. The dataset includes raw and standardized scores from the Beery–Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual-Motor Integration (6th Edition), pencil grip type (five-category classification), handedness, and mastery levels for four core subjects (Malay Language, English, Mathematics, and Science) derived from the national CBA system. All personal identifiers—including names, dates of birth, and school locations—have been removed. Each participant is assigned a non-sequential anonymised ID. This dataset supports the manuscript “Associations between visual-motor integration, pencil grip patterns, and holistic academic performance among school children,” which investigates: (1) correlations between VMI components and academic mastery, (2) differences in VMI performance across pencil grip types, and (3) the influence of age on VMI outcomes.
