Le edizioni antiche del De Situ Japygiae viste da un bibliofilo ('500 - '600 - '700)

The editorial story of the most famous work by Antonio De Ferrariis, called Galateo, De Situ Iapygiae, is rather complex because since the beginning there has been doubts about the existence of a princeps dated 1553, and during the 17th century a falsification of the edition certainly printed in Basel in 1558 by Pietro Perna. This contribution brings order into the intricate question by proposing a detailed description of the various editions of the work held by dr. Lorenzo Carlino and kept in his private library. The point of view of the bibliophile is emphasized, because only the presence of the original witnesses on the table and in the hands of the connoisseur, can account for differences and details, more or less evident to those who stop at the external aspect of the book. Even the cataloguing of the librarian eludes elements to which the bibliophile turns his attention, determining for a correct historical and bibliographic collocation. The reconstruction includes three centuries and six editions: the missing ones are however mentioned in order to give an account of the great importance of the work in the history of European culture.
