Dataset: Solid‐State Synthesis of Phase‐Pure Micron‐Sized Patrónite Vanadium Tetrasulfide toward Practical Magnesium Batteries Collection of all materials, measurements and processes that were used and/or obtained with the goal to optimize the synthesis of VS4. It also includes all characterizations that were performed in this context. Therefore it serves as the data repository which was utilized to produce the paper: "Solid-State Synthesis of Phase-Pure Micron-Sized Patrónite Vanadium Tetrasulfide towards Practical Magnesium Batteries" which is accepted and published in Small Structures, Wiley. VS4 enables a high amount of Mg-ion insertion (>1 per formula). Utilizing the simultaneous cationic anionic redox (SCAR) principle the material should facilitate higher charging rates then comparable conventional cathode materials. It also is one of the only currently known materials, besides chevrel phase, that shows high storage capacities when used in micronsized form (2 x 10 µm particles). It is therefore of outermost interest to fully understand the complex RedOx chemistry, identify degradation pathways and explore upscalability as these properties render this material as an ideal candidate to be used in a pilot project to show the feasibility of Mg batteries in general.
