American printing union.

Topics: 1. Assessment of personal influence on trade union policies;
assumed power interests of trade union functionaries and assumed
differences between trade union leaders and politicians; knowledge
about trade union organization structure and amount of expense
allowances of trade union leaders; party preference and personal
election participation in various elections; personal activities to
support election candidates; political discussions; personal interest
in accepting functions in the trade union.

2. In a written follow-up interview the following was determined:
participation in the last internal trade union election; political
interest and political activities during the time of the election
campaign; most important controversy during the last election campaign;
behavior at the polls in various trade union elections and political
elections.

Indices: political participation; political interest; social relation
with colleagues; conservatism; conformity with trade union norms;
political atmosphere in trade union; participation in meetings;
ideological orientation; circle of friends.

Also encoded was: date of postmark; remarks of respondent on
questionnaire.

Demography: self-assessment of social class; marital status; school
education; age; number of children; social origins; regional origins;
religiousness; religious denomination; city size.
