资源简介:
This study involved students from an undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, in the discipline Cell Biology that is part of a Pharmacy program, in a Brazilian College. During classes in the Cell Biology course, students was informed of the intention to conduct a study on the use of active learning methodologies during hands-on classes to report on the academic performance measurement of students undergoing self-experience during hands-on classes. Through self-experimentation, and written informed consent was obtained. Two weeks after the beginning of the course, the teacher applied a questionnaire to assess the motivation of learning through practical classes. During the practical classes, the students was subdivide into groups: active group and observer group. The active group was composed of three subgroups: group 1 that ingested oral glucose solution, group 2 that ingested oral fructose solution and group 3 that fasted. The experiment allowed students to study part of the content of Cell Biology and involved taking blood samples from students at times that mimic everyday situations - fasting and ingestion of different carbohydrates. In addition, the effect of the experiment on the degree of motivation and student satisfaction was evaluate. In Cell Biology, students study cell types, cell metabolism, cell components, and their functions over a period of 60 hours. Students' knowledge levels were assess through two written tests, and the application of questionnaires on the topics studied in the classroom. The tests were the same for all groups. A final exam was applied at the end of the semester and assessed all topics covered by the course.

This research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee registered through the Research Ethics Committees (CEPs, acronym in Portuguese) and the National Research Ethics Commission (CONEP, acronym in Portuguese) also known as the CEP/CONEP system (approval number 19059513.3.0000.5372 and expert review nº 434.935).
