Fumonisin B bioaccessibility in pig feed: role of Lactiplantibacillus and Levilactobacillus in vitro

The aims of our study were (1) to investigate the effect of fumonisin B series (FBs) on the viability of potentially probiotic isolates of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Levilactobacillus brevis and (2) to evaluate the effect of these isolates on the bioaccessibility of FBs, in a simulated digestion system in the presence of pig feed. Neither simulated digestion nor the presence of FBs caused a decline in the viability of the investigated isolates until the end of the small intestinal phase. In the presence of the applied lactobacillus isolates, the bioaccessibility of the most dominant form of FBs (that is FB1) was reduced significantly (p
