Dermal fibroblasts that were cultured from skin biopsy samples were treated for three days with either 1µM of erlotinib, 1µM of DMSO (vehicle), or no treatment. The cells were harvested on the fourth day for total RNA extraction and hybridization on Affymetrix Human GeneChip 133 Plus 2.0 microarrays. Differential gene expression in fibroblasts of individuals who developed an EGFR inhibitor-related rash, versus those who did not, were compared.
