Eighty-six 20-mers peptides were synthesized to span the entire PvMSP-1 protein from the Belem strain of P. vivax. Most of the DRB1-selected synthetic peptides elicited a proliferative response in T cells from volunteers with previous contact with P. vivax malaria. However, some responsiveness was observed in the cells from non-exposed individuals. T cell lines were generated from PBMCs by incubation with peptide pools (PvMSP-1 20-mer synthetic peptides), plus IL-2, for 10 days.
