Statistics of avalanche sizes and word lengths.

The average number of spikes in a spike avalanche (size) is larger than expected from ISI-randomized null data. The number of large avalanches (>0.99-quantile of the null size distribution; see Materials and Methods) is significantly higher than expected in null data (binomial test). The average number of neural bursts (word length) is also larger than expected in the null distribution. Likewise, the number of long words is significantly larger than expected in null data.
