Controlled Release of Hydrogen by Implantation of Magnesium Induces P53-mediated Tumor Cells Apoptosis

Molecular hydrogen has been directly or adjuvantly used in disease treatment,especially in tumors. However,understanding of the antitumor efficacy of hydrogen is not quantitative and the mechanism of how hydrogen induces tumor cell apoptosis remains elusive. Magnesium,which generates hydrogen in body fluid,is used as a hydrogen storage unit and implanted in tumor bearing mice.We found that Mg implants showed significant anti tumor efficacy in vitro and in vivo.Results of RNA sequencing and protein expression indicate that the anti tumor response attributes to increased expression of P53 tumor suppressor protein,which disrupts mitochondrial membrane potential.
