MycoStone - Limestone biodegraded wall biofilm

Old Cathedral of Coimbra a limestone monument is located at the ‘University of Coimbra – Alta and Sofia’ (Portugal) classified by UNESCO in 2013 as World Heritage site. This monument show clear visual effects of biological colonization by fungus, bacteria and microalgae. The aim of this study was to thoroughly characterize the structural diversity of the all this microorganisms, and establish a correlation between them and the different patterns of biodeterioration found on the walls of this monument.
