DOLORES ARCHAEOLOGICAL PROGRAM TECHNICAL REPORTS Report Number: DAP-195 Chapter 17 Pollen Report for Grass Mesa Village

The identification and use of available plant resources by prehistoric peoples in the Dolores Project area is the focus of Problem Domain 1 in the DAP research design (Kane et al. 1983). Pollen analysis may address this concern for Grass Mesa by examining the relative abundance of pollen obtained from various proveniences. Use of ethnographic and/or ethnohistoric records is also important in identifying resources which may have been used by indigenous people. Information obtained from these sources may be useful in examining the prehistoric record. A number of specific DAP research design questions related to processing and storage of plants and probable uses of specific plants are addressed in the "Summary and Conclusions" section. In addition, patterning of plant use on a community level is examined.
