NRS-4069 | Minutes of meetings of the Conference of Principals of Teachers' Colleges

This body was originally established as the Standing Committee on Teacher Training in 1948. It was to meet regularly to discuss such matters as "courses of training, staffing, recruiting, standards and certification". The Committee consisted of the Director General of Education (or his deputy), the Professor of Education, the Principals of Teachers' Colleges, Dr. H. S. Wyndham (Executive Member) and a Senior Inspector of the Public Service Board. The name of the Committee was changed to the Conference of Principals of Teachers' Colleges in March 1950. In 1968 the Director of Teacher Education replaced the Director General as Chairman. The minutes relate to such matters as statistics on student training; methods of selecting students; co-ordination of examination procedures; extension of teacher training course to three years; correspondence courses; optional courses in religion; visual education; sex education; suggested course outlines; deferred examinations; selection of lecturers; student allowances; and promotional grading of lecturers.
