The 4DCT dataset is a curated database that provides reference standard data for the medical imaging community to objectively and rigorously evaluate the spatial accuracy performance of deformable image registration (DIR). Thoracic 4DCT images were acquired from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, as part of the standard clinical planning workflow for the treatment of thoracic malignancies, and were sourced from the research archive of the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). Each image dataset and its corresponding anatomical coordinates were manually annotated by domain experts, and repeat registrations were conducted by blinded observers to quantify spatial variations in feature identification. In all cases, point sets were utilized to assess the spatial accuracy of intrapulmonary DIR. The 4DCT dataset was released by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2009.
