Toxoplasma gondii Infection Induces Ferroptosis in vivo and in vitro

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite which seriously threatens the health of domestic animals and humans. However, its association with ferroptosis has not been fully elucidated. Taken together, our findings suggest that T.gondii infection has important effects on redox homeostasis, revealing a previously unappreciated role for GPX4 in toxoplasmosis progression. This novel mechanism provides a potential new target for the treatment of toxoplasmosis.
