The strain VD9 was isolated from oil-contaminated soil. The strain is able to utilize petroleum hydrocarbons in the temperature range 4-30C and pH 5-8 in the presence of sodium chloride up to 5%. The concentration of oil degraded by the strain is up to 30%. The microorganism is able to utilize both aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, using them as the sole source of carbon and energy.
