The sampling site is located on the Loess Plateau in China. We selected six representative sites from two host plants (Agropyron cristatum and Stipa spp.) in the desert steppe, temperate grassland, and warm-temperate grassland and collected five soil profiles (0-20 cm, 20-40 cm, 40-60 cm, 60-80 cm, and 80-100 cm depths).
