Multi-User Database on the U.S. Courts of Appeals (2009-2016)

Data for this project were collected with support from the National Science Foundation (NSF-SES #1655159, 1654614, 1654559, 1654697). Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation. These data extend the Multi-User Database on the U.S. Courts of Appeals to the Obama era and are part of the collaborative project, "Judicial Diversity and Appellate Decision Making." Previous versions of the Multi-User Database include cases from 1925-2002. Information on the archived Database (previously funded by NSF) is available at http://artsandsciences.sc.edu/poli/juri/appct.htm In addition to the codebook, the dataset of case and participant variables, and the Federal Judicial Center judge dataset, there is a separate linked dataset of Excel spreadsheets with the universe of case citations, by circuit year, from which the samples were drawn (users may need this for weighting purposes; or, they may wish to augment the observation set).
