资源简介:

This article examines how contextual information assists students in understanding and retaining new vocabulary, drawing on cognitive, psycholinguistic, and pedagogical frameworks. Employing a mixed-methods approach, including a review of experimental studies, classroom observations, and corpus-based analyses, the paper evaluates the effectiveness of different types of context - linguistic, situational, cultural, and visual - in supporting lexical development. Results indicate that rich, varied, and meaningful contexts substantially enhance both receptive and productive vocabulary knowledge. Furthermore, the degree of inferability, the frequency of contextual encounters, and the learner's prior lexical and world knowledge emerge as key moderating variables. The discussion highlights implications for curriculum design, instructional methodology, and learner training. The findings suggest that context-based vocabulary instruction, when systematically integrated into language curricula, yields significantly better long-term retention and transfer than isolated word-list learning.
