EPC 2935 is located approximately three (3) kilometres south of the town of
Springsure, in Central Queensland. EPC 2935 lies within the northern,
exposed region of the Denison Trough in the Bowen Basin. The Bowen
Basin formed during the Permian-Triassic period and is known to host
large coal deposits and coal mining operations (e.g. Rolleston Mine, Arcadia
Deposit, Minerva Mine, Valeria Deposit) of sub-bituminous, bituminous and
anthracitic coals. The Bowen Basin is the source for a significant proportion
of Australia’s total coal exports. The geological maps of the region indicate
Tertiary basalt covers the solid geology of the Bowen Basin in the
Springsure tenement area. Based on the interpreted solid geology of the
area the basalt is underlain by the Cattle Creek Formation, Aldebaran
Sandstone, Ingelara Formation, Maria Formation and the Colinlea
Sandstone. The Reids Dome Beds are interpreted to be present in the
project area, under these units, at depth. The Tenement Holder’s work
completed in the sixth year of tenure involved the completion of a
Technical Review, which included a review of the current geological
understanding and the assessment of publicly open datasets in the region,
including any recently available information.
