IRD18C08 cluster bacterioplankton isolate Genome sequencing and assembly (ICHIJ1)

Freshwater bacterioplankton has several clusters of worldwide distribution. The strain ICHIJ1 was isolated from surface river water in Japan using the size exclusion assay method (SEAM). This strain has belonged to the IRD18C08 cluster which has been reported by Crump and Hobbie (Limnol Oceanogr., 50(6), 2005, 1718-1729.) as the environmental clone of Ipswich River in northeastern Massachusetts. The strain ICHIJ1 was a polyphosphate (polyP)-accumulating organism (PAO). The IRD18C08 cluster bacteria have been frequently isolated from surface river water in Japan using the SEAM. Our findings suggest that the IRD18C08 cluster bacteria may play an important role of phosphorus cycling in river ecosystems.
