The production of Abscisic acid (ABA) in Botrytis cinerea is strain-dependant. As ABA has never been detected from cultures of the referent B05.10 strain (gapless genome sequenced), there is no evidence that its genome contains the full set of functional genes required for the biosynthetic pathway. The genome of the previously described ABA-producing strain ATCC58025 (Marumo et al., 1982; Siewers et al., 2004; 2006) was therefore sequenced to identify the full set of functional genes required for the ABA biosynthetic pathway.
