Japanese harvester species Leiobunum manubriatum exhibits facultative parthenogenesis and intra-population mixed ploidy, characteristics found rarely in animals. Both diploid and tetraploid L. manubriatum individuals occur within the same populations, and females of both ploidies are able to reproduce asexually. We used Oxford Nanopore and Dovetail to sequence and assemble the genome of the L. manubriatum diploid race as a reference to explore hypotheses about the origin, consequences, and relationship of polyploidy and facultative parthenogenesis.
