Three different apple genotypes (M.26, MAl0130, MAL0739) were grown in three different soils (HG: sand; EH: loamy sand; RU: silty loam) for 56 days in a greenhouse pot experiment. All soils were affected by apple replant disease (ARD) and had been planted with six generations of apple, previously. Aim of the study was to investigate how/if the selection of apple genotypes can alleviate ARD symptoms, including the reduction of accumulated bacterial and fungal taxa that were found in conjunction with ARD. To investigate the microbial community composition in root-affected soil, we performed Illumina amplicon sequencing of the bacterial 16S rRNA (V3-V4) and fungal ITS2 fragments.
