Base isolated/damping platforms for seismic protection of essential equipment - Pendulum-based Columns Platform

One isolation platform, consisting of four isolation columns supporting one steel plate that simulates the self-weight of a piece of equipment was tested. Each column is conformed of three pendulum-based units rotated horizontally. The isolation columns were designed by Base Isolation of Alaska. To simulate the equipment weight, a steel plate of 1505 lbs was plate atop of the four isolation columns. The test program consists of white noise excitation, single directional and bi-directional sinusoidal excitations and three-directional earthquake ground and floor motions. The floor accelerations intend to replicate floor accelerations recorded in multi-story buildings under historic earthquake shaking.
