Ubiquitin fusion protein 1 (Ubi1) is essential for growth and virulence of Cryptococcus neoformans

To explore the molecular basis for the defect of in vitro growth and in vivo invasion caused by Ubi1 deletion, RNA-sequencing was performed to compare the transcriptional profiles of WT and ubi1∆ cells. A total of 236 genes were differentially expressed (141 upregulated and 95 down regulated) by at least 2-fold (P < 0.05) between these two strains (see Table S3 in the supplemental material). Among them, most prominent functional groups were involved in ribosome biogenesis/assembly, rRNA processing /transport, nucleotide metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and protein processing。 RNA-sequencing was performed to compare the transcriptional profiles of wild-type and ubi1∆ mutant cells.
