Canada1Water Leaf Area Index - Monthly Normals

Abstract ESA Copernicus Global Land Operations Leaf Area Index with global gap-free coverage at 11-day interval and 1km resolution was selected for Canada1Water use. This LAI product is more ready for use in application such as HGS as it is gap-free and quality assured. The 756 NetCDF files were downloaded for 11-day intervals for time periods between 1999 and 2019. There are 21 years with 12 months and 3 LAI grids for each month. First, a daily normal was calculated using the mean value of each of the 36 time intervals within the 21 years. Then, a monthly normal was further calculated using the mean of the 3 time intervals in each month using the daily normal grids. This results in 12 final LAI grids – 1 for each month of the year, representing the normal over the 21 year period. Note that Canada1Water is re-serving LAI using a scaling factor of 30 that needs to be applied to the Geotiff for correct use.
