Collection of 3D data useful for surveying and digitizing cultural heritage using UAV photogrammetry and lidar sensors: Iuvanum 3D dataset

The digitization of Cultural Heritage (CH) through 3D data acquisition has become a key tool in archaeological surveying and modeling, offering accurate documentation, preservation, and analysis of fragile artifacts and sites. In the last years, increasingly advanced technologies and methods allow for the digitization of cultural heritage such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) photogrammetry, Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). In this study, we present a multi-sensor dataset collected at the archaeological site of Iuvanum (Italy), focusing on the ancient theater. The survey combined UAV-based photogrammetry, SLAM, TLS, and Matterport Pro3 acquisition, supported by Ground Control Points (GCPs) measured with GNSS to ensure precise georeferencing. The shared dataset includes raw images, GCP coordinates, and processed 3D models, openly available for replication and reuse under FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). This contribution not only supports heritage documentation and archaeological research but also provides a valuable benchmark for developing and testing innovative methods in 3D reconstruction, semantic classification, and digital preservation.
