Total number of old age pensions (AOW) in the Netherlands 1998-2022

In 2022, there were approximately 3.5 million old age pensions in the Netherlands. The AOW scheme is an insurance scheme which covers everyone who lives or works in the Netherlands, regardless of nationality and is a basic state pension. As a rule, everyone who has reached the AOW pension age and lives or has lived in the Netherlands is entitled to this. It is paid under the National Old Age Pensions Act or AOW.
