Gut and oviduct microbiome of Sceloporus virgatus (striped plateau lizard)

These 16s rRNA gene sequences were collected to examine how microbial communities vary across the digestive and reproductive tracts of female lizards, in part to investigate the hypothesis that the cloacal microbiome is adapted to transfer a restricted and beneficial microbial community to eggshells during oviposition. We also compare cloacal swab and fecal samples, two common methods to approximate the gut microbiome. We examine these questions using the striped plateau lizard, Sceloporus virgatus.
